Jim Flynn is a principal of @Work Technologies, a NYC-based software vendor that
has developed the WorkOut Internet Bill Presentment (IBP) system. WorkOut is an XML-driven
system that was developed in Java and utilizes CORBA distributed object technology.
It enables any organization to instantly transform their existing billing print data
streams into light-weight documents that can be delivered over the Internet.
Jim co-authored one of the earliest and most comprehensive books on the Java language,
entitled "Visual J++ Java Programming". He is also an editor at "Java
Electronic Commerce Magazine". Prior to co-founding @Work, Jim ran a company
called Greenbar Software, which was aquired by FileNet Coporation in 1996. He was
also the Vice President of International Financial Systems Ltd., a leading vendor
of electronic money transfer software. Jim began his career at AT&T where he
was a Natioanl Account Executive, Computer Systems Engineer, Project Leader, and
Jim is a Certified Document Imaging Architect (CDIA) and a Microsoft Certified Professional
(MCP). He earned a BS from Manahattan College and an MBA from New York University.

Jonathan B Spira
President, The Basex Group, Inc.
Jonathan B. Spira is the founder and Senior Managing Director of The Basex Group,
a 15-year-old research and management consulting firm specializing in new and emerging
technologies. He is also a founder of AlleyEvents, Inc., the creators of the popular
Silicon Alley community calendar site, and of WebCentral Ventures, Inc., which manages
a series of virtual community Web sites targeted at licensed professionals such as
physicians and lawyers. He also publishes the InfoBasex mailing list, which features
news and feature items relating to interesting business and technology issues.
Mr Spira is a founding board member of the Association of Internet Professionals
(formed through a merger of the IDA and ISIP), the largest professional society in
the industry, where he chairs the Ethics Committee. Mr Spira is also a Judge of the
Global Information Infrastructure Awards (GII), and previously has served as a Judge
for the Marcom Awards. Mr Spira is asked to speak frequently on the future of technology
and has authored papers on information and knowledge management.
Recently, he chaired the Building Business Virtual Communities '98 conference.
Mr Spira has served on various boards of non- and not-for-profit organizations, and
advises several professional associations on the strategic importance of new media.
He has helped these organization formulate successful on-line strategies for their
membership. Mr Spira attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and
the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität, München.
What excites Mr Spira about the present state of technology is that we have created
a magnificent infrastructure, with the power to bring people together in a variety
of different ways. Now the challenge is to make the technology itself more useful,
and bring people of like interests together working towards a common goal.
